#30: Jay Cottrell

Jay Cottrell, or Young OG as he’d prefer to be known, is an oddball in the blade game and we love him because of it. Off-mic and on blades, Jay is always about ad-libbing and just spitting out hilarious bits about fat women and his dreams to own his own hog farm. On the podcast, he’s more reserved, talking about how Harriet the Spy became sexy, his ancestor that snogged Martha Washington, and getting stabbed in the face by Rutgers students. We also determined that there’s a good possibility Jay was the one I threw down a flight of stairs at a book release party.

#22: Mike “Coach” Opalek

Mike Opalek was on the original Senate team, and has performed stunts in such 90s classics as Airborne, Brink, Double Dragon, and Batman and Robin.

From his front porch in Salt Lake City, Mike talks about rollerblading in the movie industry, being a blade coach, and, of course, making whiskey and beer. We end by hashing out possible plot points in the script for Airborne II and whether or not it could ever get made.

The alternate title to this podcast would have been “Ice Thug Life with Mike Opalek,” but we’re better than that.

Brandon Ford is a staple of the Boston blading scene. He stopped by the Rock Town garage while driving across the U.S. for his moving company. We talked about blading in the Olympics, the Jenner effect, neighborhood crime, the power of good weed,  conspiracy theories regarding Middle Earth, the mindset of mass shooters, and dogs.

I had a good time hanging out with Brandon, so I hope you enjoyed the podcast. Don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher so you don’t miss out on future episodes of the Rock Town Podcast.
